Alexander Technique Teachers
of Greater Washington

Susan Cohen

Susan Martin Cohen certified as an Alexander Technique teacher in London in 1985. Shortly thereafter, she opened her Alexander studio on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, where she has been teaching ever since.

She enjoys teaching people from all sorts of professions, from athletes to musicians, from actors to lawyers and office workers. One of her greatest joys is showing them how to enhance their performance and effectiveness with less tension and more ease and freedom of movement.

Susan has served for many years on the faculties of the Drama Departments of Howard and George Mason Universities. Her teaching and consulting credits also include the Shakespeare Theatre, where she was affiliated for over a decade, the Arena Stage, and the Levine School of Music. Since 1992 Susan has served on the theater faculty of Catholic University where she teaches the Technique to MFA candidates, undergraduates, and musical theater students. Susan also teaches the Technique at the Studio Theatre’s Acting Conservatory. She is a registered movement therapist and a member of the American Society of the Alexander Technique (AmSat).

"For me the Technique is a life long journey. I continue to explore this process by pursuing, among other interests, post-graduate classes in New York and elsewhere.”

In 20006 Susan completed a post-graduate course in THE ART OF BREATHING with Jessica Wolf.
